Specialist dementia care

Barley View care home is set within the picturesque Whitworth countryside. As a purpose-built home, special care has been taken to provide relaxing and harmonious decoration for those living with dementia.

From simple touches such as colour specific designated areas and easy to identify signage, to objects of interest for engagement, residents can familiarise themselves with their surroundings and feel safe and secure.

Team approach

We employ people who demonstrate a passion for exceptional care and we invest heavily in training to ensure that the essential elements of respect and dignity are built into all care procedures and processes.

Our care team are also trained to work with people living with dementia. Our dementia training allows our team members to see beyond the condition with a focus on empathy and person-centred care.

We cater to the additional needs of residents on Willow Lane through higher staff ratios, allowing us to spend more time looking after our residents and getting to know them.

relative testimonial

Our mum and her family were given the most wonderful welcome when she arrived at Barley View and she has received outstanding and loving care since. All the staff are professional, know the residents very well and treat them all with respect and warmth. The rooms and communal areas are lovely and all the food is delicious, homemade and catered for the individual residents – Review from Mary V

Willow lane activities

We have a dedicated Activities and Wellbeing Co-ordinator and a whole staff team approach to ensuring residents lead fulfilling, meaningful lives, with access to a programme of activities and planned trips.

Supporting residents with activities is vital to keeping their minds and bodies exercised and stimulated. Without such stimulation, currently retained abilities can atrophy and disappear due to lack of use.

In contrast, using effective activities for people with dementia not only helps retain specific abilities but also generally energises the brain – supporting its overall function. Reminiscence therapy is effective in triggering memories and supporting the person to talk about them – helping to bring a sense of familiarity and safety.

Our activities include:
  • Supported trips out on our fully adapted minibus
  • Interactive table featuring games, drawing, puzzles and much more
  • Daily Walks
  • Weekly Church services
  • Choir practice
  • Chair aerobics with Active Andy
  • Arts and crafts sessions
  • Baking sessions
  • Musical Bingo
  • Dominoes competitions with a trophy for the winner!
  • Music nights – dance along with your favourite artist
  • Friday night pub night
  • Pet therapy – visits from local farms with hungry lambs and alpacas and family pets.
