On Sunday 5th July the NHS turns 72!
I think we can all agree that the current global coronavirus pandemic has shown us just how amazing our NHS is, and how lucky we are to have this service as a Country.
We would like to take this time to pay tribute not only to the NHS staff that have helped us battle coronavirus, but to everyone who has contributed since the National Health Service’s 1948 inception.
Just this week our team have been busy learning additional skills in partnership with our NHS colleagues.
We have logged on to our virtual training session with our allocated Advance Nurse Practitioner, and completed Early Symptom observation skills. The observations include checking respiratory rate, oxygen levels, blood pressure and pulse rate, and can help to identify potential infections, including Covid and sepsis before classic symptoms are easily visible.
We are pleased that we will soon be able to facilitate outdoor social distancing visiting for families and residents. We are awaiting delivery of a lovely summer house which will be retro-fit with a perspex partition wall to enable residents and families to be comfortable, out of the weather and to be able to safely ‘see and talk’ to each other. There will be a strict booking in appointment system, and all visitors will be met by staff in PPE. Hand washing facilities will be available and must be used before being taken through to the summer house. Suggestions of names for this summer house are welcomed!
Next week sees the start of retesting of all care home residents and staff. Latest government guidance is for staff to be retested weekly and residents on a monthly basis. This is a valuable way to continue to monitor the wellbeing of our residents and staff.
We are currently full at Barley View, but would still love to hear from anybody who is interested in finding out more about living at Barley View and being added to our waiting list. Please contact Jane on 07542 229367 or the Home on 01706 659917 to have a chat.
